Massachusetts State Police are investigating a fatal crash that also injured two others including a Fall River man.

At approximately 1:35 a.m. Massachusetts State Police responded to a single-vehicle rollover that occurred on Back Street (which runs parallel to the eastbound side of Storrow Drive in Boston) near the intersection with Clarendon Street. The vehicle came to rest on Back Street after hitting a building.

Alexander Galanis, 27, of Stoughton, who was also the operator of the vehicle, died in the crash. Following the crash, Galanis was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced deceased. The vehicle involved was a 2000 Cadillac sedan.

There were two passengers in the vehicle. One of the passengers, a 32-year-old man from Fall River was transported to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston for treatment of minor injuries. The other passenger, a 38-year-old man from Cape Coral, Florida, was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston for treatment of serious injuries.

The investigation indicates the vehicle was operating on a section of Storrow Drive that was closed as part of the July 4th Esplanade event which concluded about 2 1/2 hours before the time of the crash. Evidence suggests that prior to the crash, the operator drove around barriers at the Charlesgate East On-Ramps to enter the closed portion of Storrow Drive.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by patrols and detectives from Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police, along with the State Police Collision Analysis Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and State Police Detective Unit for Suffolk County.
