Fall River man held without bail in Superior Court after barber appointment leads to arrest, seizure of drugs and stolen firearm
A local man faced a judge Monday after police say he was found with drugs and a stolen gun.
According to police, on April 23rd, members of the C.A.S.T. Unit were proactively patrolling when they observed 30-year-old Elijah Jones enter a barbershop on Rodman Street. Detectives were aware that Jones had an active warrant for his arrest.
Detectives entered the business and observed Jones seated in a barber chair. After confirming the active warrant, detectives approached him, informed him of the warrant, and placed him into custody. After being handcuffed, Jones attempted to flee on foot, running out of the business directly into the waiting arms of detectives outside. He was quickly apprehended by detectives without further incident.
A search of Jones resulted in the recovery of a loaded SCCY Industries CPX-2 9mm firearm. A small amount of suspected cocaine concealed within a folded dollar bill was also located. Jones does not possess a valid license to carry a firearm. A subsequent check of the firearm revealed it had been reported stolen out of the state of Georgia.
Jones was transported to the Fall River Police Department, where he was processed and charged with Firearm, Carry Without License (Loaded), 2nd Offense; Firearm Violation with One Prior Violent/Drug Crime; Firearm, Carry Without License, 2nd Offense; Firearm, Possess Large Capacity (M.G.L. c.269 §10(m)); Resisting Arrest; Possession of a Class B Substance; and Receiving Stolen Property Under $1,200.
Court records show that at arraignment in Fall River District Court, Jones pled not guilty and was held on dangerousness.
On May 28th he was indicted in Fall River Superior Court on Carry a Firearm Without a License, 2nd Offense and Resisting Arrest.
According to court records, at Monday’s arraignment, Jones pled not guilty and was held without bail. He has a pre-trial conference scheduled for July 14th.
