Fall River man held without bail in Superior Court after alleged crime spree across the South Coast

A Fall River man has pled not guilty in Fall River court following an investigation into a series of car thefts and motor vehicle break-ins.

According to Swansea Police, between July 3rd and 10th, seven vehicles were stolen in Swansea, including a Kia, Ford, Nissan, and Land Rover. Six of those vehicles have since been recovered.

During the same period, approximately 25 residents reported break-ins to their cars. Most of these incidents took place between 3:30 and 6:30 a.m.

Swansea Police partnered with various agencies, including the Massachusetts State Police and departments from Wareham, New Bedford, and Somerset, as neighboring communities experienced a similar surge in such crimes around that time.

Brian Santiago, age 24, of Fall River, was charged with: Larceny of a motor vehicle (seven counts) Breaking and entering a motor vehicle during the nighttime with the intent to commit a felony (26 counts) Breaking and entering a motor vehicle during the daytime with the intent to commit a felony (14 counts) Larceny over $1,200 (two counts) Larceny under $1,200 (15 counts) Improper use of a credit card under $1,200 Attempt to commit a crime (two counts), and Conspiracy.

Also charged were:

Syaire Burgos, age 18, of Lawrence, is charged with: Larceny of a motor vehicle (three counts), Breaking and entering a motor vehicle during the nighttime with the intent to commit a felony (11 counts), Larceny over $1,200 Larceny under $1,200 (three counts), and Conspiracy.

Luis Santiago, age 27, of New Bedford, is charged with: Larceny of a motor vehicle (seven counts), Breaking and entering a motor vehicle during the nighttime with the intent to commit a felony (26 counts), Breaking and entering a motor vehicle during the daytime with the intent to commit a felony (14 counts), Larceny over $1,200 (two counts), Larceny under $1,200 (15 counts), Attempt to commit a crime (two counts), and Conspiracy.

In late July, Burgos, Luis Santiago, and Brian Santiago were arrested by the Wareham Police Department in connection with vehicle thefts and break-ins in that area.

According to court records, on Tuesday, Brian Santiago was held without bail in Fall River Superior Court with a pre-trial conference scheduled for January 8th.

Burgos was previously arraigned in Fall River District Court and was being held on $20,000 bail.

Luis Santiago is still in custody and is scheduled for arraignment at a later date.
