A Fall River man was in Fall River Superior Court Wednesday concerning the fatal stabbing of another man.

Court records show that 44-year-old Pedro Fernando Orellano Alvarado had a hearing on competency with the matter taken under advisement.

According to Gregg Miliote of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, on March 15th, 2024, at 9:45 p.m., Fall River Police and paramedics were called to the rooming house at 234 Tripp Street and provided aid to the victim, who was later identified as 44-year-old Joseph Bump.

Bump was rushed to Saint Anne’s Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased just prior to 10:30 p.m.

Both the defendant and the victim were residents of the rooming house when a fight reportedly broke out with Alvarado claiming self-defense.

It was later determined that the property was not licensed as a rooming house at the time.

Alvarado has been held without bail since his arraignment.

A status review is scheduled for September 29th.

Assistant District Attorney Daniel Walsh is prosecuting the case.
