A Fall River man is facing several charges after a weekend arrest.

According to Det. Sergeant Matthew Mendes, the Fall River Police Department has arrested 24-year-old Jamauri Bates who was found to be in possession of a “Polymer 80 Ghost Gun,” which is described as an untraceable firearm with no serial number.

On Saturday, members of the Patrol Bureau responded to the area of Peckham and Barrett Street regarding reports of a male in possession of a firearm. While officers were responding to the area, they received updated information regarding the suspect’s description and the suspect’s last known direction of travel. Once on scene, Officers were provided with the suspect’s identity (Bates) and later located him walking in the area of Tuttle and Benjamin Street. As Officer Joseph Bailey went to encounter Bates, he proceeded to flee on foot.

Following a short foot pursuit, Bates was taken into custody and found to be in possession of the Polymer 80 Ghost Gun. Amongst other charges, Bates was charged in violation of numerous firearm related offenses.

At Tuesday’s arraignment, Bates pled not guilty on all charges and was held without bail pending the completion of a dangerousness hearing.

Bates next scheduled court appearance is December 3rd.
