Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn, III has announced that a 46-year-old man violated his probation and in Fall River Superior Court was sentenced to serve an additional State Prison Sentence of two to three years followed by five years of probation.

Richard Brown of Fall River had previously plead guilty in 2016 to two counts of statutory rape of a child and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and received a state prison sentence of 5 to 6 years along with 10 years of supervised probation. The Commonwealth had requested an 8-to-12-year state prison sentence. Brown had sexually assaulted his stepdaughter when she was between the ages of 6 to 8 years old.   The defendant had several conditions of his probation, to include a GPS bracelet, sex offender counselling, no unsupervised contact with minors without prior approval of the court and no dating anyone with minor children without prior approval of the court.  Brown began his probationary sentence on 8/13/21.  During his probation, the defendant had multiple violations. Brown was found by the probation officer to be in the company of minors based upon social media posts and a review of Brown’s GPS data points.  The defendant was found to have been in a relationship with a female that had two minor children and that he had spent several nights at her residence, which is where the children lived.  This was a violation of Brown’s conditions of probation.

The probation matter was handled by the Superior Court Probation Officer James Adams and Assistant District Attorney Christine Parent.

“Credit goes to the Probation Officer for investigating the defendant’s whereabouts and determining that he was in a relationship with a woman who had two minor children without obtaining the approval of the Probation Department.  This was a second violation by the defendant who is a convicted sex offender,” District Attorney Tom Quinn said.
