Fall River man charged after allegedly attempting to rob convenience store
A Fall River man has been arrested after a reported attempted robbery at a city convenience store.
According to Detective Sergeant Moses Pereira, just after 5:15 p.m., the Fall River Police Department responded to the Sunset Hill Variety on Bowen Street after receiving reports of a robbery attempt at that location.
Upon arrival, the store clerk explained that a man entered the business and demanded money and cigarettes from him. The clerk refused to comply with the demands, and the suspect fled the store on foot. Officers reviewed video surveillance footage of the incident at which time the suspect was believed to be an individual whom officers had encountered earlier in the day while investigating an unrelated call for service at Sunset Hill.
Based on this, Officer Corey Dolan was able to locate the suspect in the area of Pokross Street and Poplar Street.
The suspect, 33-year-old Emmanuel Berrios, was taken into custody without incident. He is charged with an attempt to commit a crime – to wit armed robbery.
