Last week members of the Troop D Community Action Team were busy patrolling the streets in Fall River where they made an arrest after a pursuit.

According to Massachusetts State Police, on March 14, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a Trooper assigned to the D Troop CAT Team attempted to stop a green Chevy SUV while on Alden Street in Fall River.

After the Trooper activated his blue lights the operator of the SUV sped away, took a series of turns, and parked the vehicle in the driveway of a residence. The Trooper quickly approached the operator, identified as Scott Laberge, 52, of Fall River, as he exited the SUV. Laberge refused commands and began fighting with the Trooper, then fled the scene on foot.

After a brief foot pursuit, the Trooper subdued Laberge and placed him under arrest. While the Trooper was pursuing Laberge a crowd gathered around the cruiser and began tampering with the scene; one individual took possession of the Trooper’s body worn camera after it fell off during the struggle with Laberge. The individual was observed on the cruiser mounted camera taking possession of the body camera, concealing it within her clothing, and bringing it into her residence. She was later charged for Larceny over $1,200 and Interfering with Police.

A computer inquiry of the SUV Laberge was operating revealed he was not the registered owner and, as such, it was towed from the scene.

Laberge was transported to State Police-Dartmouth where he was booked for Possession of a Class B Drug (Crack Cocaine), Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Failure to Stop for Police, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License (subsequent offense), Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Resisting Arrest among other charges.

It was also discovered Laberge had two active warrants for his arrest.
