A Fall River man accused of slashing tires on dozens of cars has been captured.

According to Det. Sergeant Moses Pereira, 40-year-old Liduino Tavares, the individual accused of slashing tires on 62 vehicles in the south end of the city on September 18, 2024, was taken into custody on October 1, 2024, by members of the Major Crimes Division.

At approximately 6:15 a.m., officers responded to the area of Mulberry Street and Division Street regarding a report of tire slashing.

Shortly thereafter, other officers were dispatched to the area of Ridge Street and Cottage Street regarding the same complaint.

Tavares was released on personal recognizance Wednesday morning.

DA Quinn issued the following statement regarding Judge Franco Gobourne’s decision to release Liduino Tavares on personal recognizance.

“I am very disappointed he was released, especially when considering his prior criminal record and the number of charges he was facing.”

According to the DA’s Office, during the arraignment, Assistant District Attorney John Geary argued that the defendant should be held on $25,000 cash bail due to the number of charges he faces, his lengthy criminal record and previous violations of probation.
