Fall River man accused of dealing drugs from homeless encampment held without bail

A Fall River man with previous drug arrests on his record pled not guilty Friday in Fall River District Court on new charges.

According to Fall River Police, on Wednesday evening, FRPD C.A.S.T. Detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for a tent located within a homeless encampment off Brayton Avenue. The target of the warrant was 34-year-old Robert Langlais. Through the course of their investigation, detectives developed information indicating that Langlais was selling fentanyl and crack cocaine from the encampment and was illegally in possession of a firearm.

Although Langlais was not inside the tent when the warrant was executed, detectives received information that he was walking nearby. Detectives canvassed the surrounding area and soon observed Langlais approaching the encampment on Brayton Avenue. Upon seeing the detectives, he attempted to flee on foot. After a brief pursuit, he was safely apprehended.

A search of Langlais revealed a Sig Sauer P365 loaded with nine rounds of 9mm ammunition, over 7 grams of cocaine, over 4 grams of crack cocaine, over 1.5 grams of fentanyl, two Clonazepam pills, and over $300 in cash. The firearm was later determined to be stolen.

Langlais was placed under arrest and charged with the following offenses:

• Firearm – Carry Without License Loaded in Public

• Firearm – Carry Without License

• Firearm – Possess Large Capacity

• Firearm – Possession of Large Capacity in Felony

• Possession Class A Drug with Intent to Distribute

• Possession Class B Drug with Intent to Distribute

• Possession Class C Drug

• Receiving Stolen Property

According to court records, at Friday’s arraignment, Langlais was held without bail with a detention hearing scheduled for December 1st.

Police noted that Langlais is the same man who got stuck in a chimney, allegedly evading police last year.
