Fall River graduate, former Bristol County assistant district attorney who served Bristol County Probate passes away

A Fall River grad who gave decades of her legal expertise to Bristol County and beyond has died.

72-year-old Miriam Hadassah Babin passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday.

According to an obituary, Babin was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1971, and went “on to earn a bachelors degree from Barnard College in 1975 and a law degree from Boston University in 1978. She was an accomplished attorney, beginning her practice as an assistant district attorney in Bristol County, going on to establish her own firm, and then working in the probate court in Bristol County.”

The Law Office of Cohen Cleary, where she was an attorney, stated that “for twenty-three years, Miriam served the Commonwealth at the Bristol County Probate and Family Court as an Assistant Judicial Case Manager, where she managed caseloads for judges, conducted legal research, and helped shape the procedures by which countless families found resolution.”

Miriam was a member of Temple Emanu-El in Providence for many years and also a skilled seamstress.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 23, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Temple Emanu-El, 99 Taft Ave, Providence, RI with burial in Temple Beth El, 4515 North Main Street, Fall River, MA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Jewish Theological Seminary Development Fund or the Massachusetts Bar Foundation.
