Crews made quick work of a Friday night fire in Fall River that also led to a rescue.

According to the Fall River Firefighter Union, at approximately 11:30 p.m., members responded with Engine 2, Engine 4, Engine 9, Ladder 2, Ladder 4, Heavy Rescue 1, and Car 3 for a reported fire at 135 Snell Street.

Upon arrival, crews encountered a fire on the second floor.

Engine 4 stretched a hose line to a second-floor bedroom and quickly knocked down the fire.

A report of a trapped child prompted immediate searches. Ladder 2 accessed the apartment via ground ladders, while Engine 2 searched the neighboring unit. Firefighters from Engine 2 located a child and safely brought him down the ladder.

The union noted that several of the apparatus on scene were staffed with four firefighters—an important factor that helped get the hose line in place faster, limit fire spread, and strengthen the search team.

“That additional staffing directly contributed to locating and rescuing the child more quickly.”

The fire is under investigation.
