Fall River Firefighters begin drive to keep city children warm this winter
According to Fall River Fire Union President Jason Burns, the highly successful Operation Warm campaign has begun once again.
Due to the generosity of Fall River Firefighters, IAFF Local 1314 and the community, some much needed coats were donated last year to every student at Watson School and almost 500 coats in all were donated.
They are looking to put as many brand new winter coats on as many kids as possible this season.
The drive typically concludes in January.
Burns released a statement via Facebook on this year’s drive:
It is in that spirit that I bring to you IAFF L1314 Fall River Firefighters 4th Annual Operation Warm winter coat fundraiser!! What an amazing experience this has been and none of it would have been possible without so many of you reaching deep… into your pockets and making whatever donation you could afford. We are so appreciative and grateful for your support of this program.
Together, along with Operation Warm, we have been able to provide over 1250+ brand new winter coats to some of the greatest kids in and around Fall River. For some of these children it was the first time in their lives that they were able to call a brand new winter coat their very own.
Over the past few years we have partnered with the Watson Elementary, Fonseca Elementary School, Carlton Viveiros Elementary School, The Boys & Girls Club, The Head Start program, Greater Fall River Re-Creation, The YMCA and even some local homeless shelters.
So many families and deserving children benefitted. Personally it made me incredibly proud to watch you all support this program and these kids. If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times…those who know what it is like to need, give…and they give generously. Fall River has personified that during these campaigns. Your commitment to helping others is inspiring.
We will be discussing internally who we can partner with this year but we are starting with the Greene School. We are also looking for another school in Fall River in need or another youth program. I’m all ears and am asking for some ideas for partnership. Please feel free to post here or message me directly.
Also please help me get the word out…share this post…all donations to our page will go directly to our campaign and into our community. For every $20 donated we get to put a brand new winter coat on a young child in our community. If you do send a check directly to Operation Warm please note in the memo “Fall River L1314” so we will be credited.
