Fall River, MA – The Fall River Firefighters IAFF Local 1314 has announced that they have reached a tentative agreement with the City of Fall River to increase staffing levels and memorialize those commitments in writing.

A statement released by the President of the Fall River Firefighters Union, Michael O’ Reagan, is as follows:

“This agreement marks a critical step forward in improving public safety for residents and ensuring the safety of firefighters on the front lines.

“The agreement comes in the wake of the devastating Fall River tragedy that claimed the lives of 10 civilians. In response, both the union and Mayor Paul Coogan worked together to find a solution that prioritizes safety, reflects the lessons learned from that tragedy, and addresses the urgent need for adequate staffing in the city’s fire department.

“Increasing staffing is not just about numbers-it’s about saving lives,” said Michael O’ Reagan, President of the Fall River Firefighters Union. “This agreement demonstrates that when labor and city leadership work together, we can achieve real results that protect our community and the firefighters who serve it every day.”

“The agreement will ensure that fire stations and apparatus are staffed in compliance with industry standards, reducing dangerous gaps in coverage and response times. By putting the commitment in writing, the City of Fall River and the Fall River Firefighters Union are laying the foundation for stronger fire protection and a safer community. “
