Fall River Fire Department veteran, Purple Heart recipient, passes away

A local man who has served his community in multiple capacities has died.

According to an obituary, 78-year-old Jimmy A. Smith of Fall River passed away on Thursday.

Jimmy was described as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

In addition to his service to the Fall River Fire Department, he served his country as a Lance Corporal in the USMC, earning a Purple Heart in the Vietnam War.

His Funeral Mass will be private.
