Fall River Fire Department teaches fire safety at Atlantis Charter School
It was fire safety day Monday morning at the Atlantis Charter School in Fall River.
City firefighters Clayton Walker and Jeff Mederios of the Fall River Fire Department hosted one of their many educational events Monday concerning fire safety. The hour-long presentation held the attention of a cafeteria full of elementary school children the whole time with lots to watch and learn. A fun, age-appropriate cartoon video about what to do in a fire started things off and then firefighter Walker showed students the gear he wears when responding to a fire. From his boots to his helmet, Walker showed students what his safety gear does in emergency situations and passed around his gloves for students to try on.
After listening to the presentation, students got a surprise when Sparky, the Fall River Fire Department mascot, made a special appearance to give kids high fives and to take pictures with each class. The departments also handed out special pencils to each student that when warm, changed colors.
The Fall River Fire Department hosts over 50 educational events throughout the year, from fire extinguisher training, senior fire safety classes and their Touch a Truck events.
For more information on events in 2024, contact Clayton Walker at 508-324-2740 ext. 114.
