Fall River Fire Department responds to hazardous material spill at Walmart, testing confirms substance
Crews in Fall River responded Wednesday to a hazardous material spill at a city department store.
According to Fall River Fire Department officials, at approximately 2:15 p.m. this afternoon, the Fall River Fire Department was dispatched to Walmart on Quequechan Street for a report of an unknown substance.
Car 3, Engine 9, and Ladder 2 responded to the scene in addition to several on duty Hazardous Material Technicians that responded as a precautionary response.
Once on scene, they isolated the area and requested the state Hazardous Material Team.
According to District Chief Jeff Bacon, there was a police matter in the store and a substance, later to be determined as fentanyl, was released from a suspect.
