Fall River Fire Department publishes public access guidance after Fall River Reporter video shows deplorable fire station conditions

In response to the Fall River Reporter’s video detailing deplorable living and working conditions at the fire station on Bedford Street, the Fall River Fire Department has put out an official policy that defines restricted areas: apparatus bays, crew quarters, bunk rooms, bathrooms, locker rooms, and personal storage spaces. Individuals requesting access must also provide 48-hour notice.

On Jun 3, 2025, Fall River Reporter published a video showing exposed asbestos, significant peeling ceiling paint, and other sub-standard conditions in the living and working areas of the Bedford Street fire station:

Shortly after the video was posted, we were alerted that media access would be restricted in the future. On 11 June 2025, the City of Fall River Fire Department published a policy related to public access and filing.

Individuals or media outlets wishing to film must submit a Filming Request Form at least 48 hours in advance, unless it is a breaking news event involving department activity. Access to apparatus bays, crew quarters, bunk rooms, bathrooms, locker rooms, and personal storage spaces are now on the restricted areas list.

Fall River Reporter has requested access to the Stanley Street fire station, which the FRFD Chief has approved.
