Fall River Firefighters made quick work of two exterior fires on Sunday.

According to the Fall River Firefighter Union, at 4:30 a.m., crews arrived at 185 Shove Street to find an exterior fire at a six-unit building—just moments away from climbing into the attic. Thanks to the fast response, over 25 residents were able to stay in their homes.

At just after 2:30 p.m., firefighters tackled another rear deck fire at 35 Murray Street, stopping it before it could spread. Engines 12, 2, and 6, along with Platform 1, Ladder 4, and Car 2 as command, worked quickly to prevent further damage.

The union stated that both fires were caused by careless disposal of smoking materials.

The Fire Investigation Unit has investigated approximately 8 fires in the past two weeks.
