Fall River Family Persists in Push to Reopen 20-Year-Old Alleged Child Rape Case Against Accused Attorney Father
FALL RIVER ─ The young woman and her family, who demonstrated outside the Fall River Justice Center two weeks ago, asking Bristol County District Attorney (DA) Thomas Quinn III to reopen a child rape investigation, say they aren’t giving up the fight for justice for the then 4-year-old.
But it doesn’t appear that the heartfelt pleading from 23-year-old Aleciana Gonzalez is changing the mind of DA Quinn. She alleges that her biological father, Aneudy Neo Gonzalez, sexually assaulted her 20 years ago.
Aneudy Neo Gonzalez, 44, a licensed attorney and local business owner, is facing prosecution in another unrelated child rape case. He was arrested on a Fall River police warrant in Florida earlier this year, extradited, and is facing four counts of rape of a child and indecent assault of a child.
Aneudy Neo Gonzalez is free on $10,000 cash bail and represented by Fall River defense attorney and former Bristol County District Attorney Samuel Sutter.
After several requests for comment by the Fall River Reporter, Quinn’s office sent the following statement by email:
“The BCDAO does not comment on these matters. The matter you have made inquiry of has been reviewed by the BCDAO. The BCDAO spoke directly with the parties involved and apprised them of the decision-making process and outcome of that process.”
On Sept. 5, Aleciana Gonzalez, a teacher at B.M.C. Durfee High School, and about 30 family members and supporters, urged Quinn to pursue her case for a second time. Aleciana Gonzalez first reported the alleged rape to a therapist, and the case was referred to the District Attorney’s office around 2007, but was never prosecuted.
Aleciana, her mother, Alecia Ward and supporters outside the Fall River Justice Center.
“I challenge the DA’s office because I deserve justice. The unseen victims deserve justice,” said an emotional Aleciana Gonzalez during the demonstration. “He was supposed to be my dad. He was supposed to keep me safe.”
Aleciana Gonzalez’s mother, Alicia Ward, said a Facebook account, Justice for Aleciana, has been set up to bring information on her daughter’s case to light.
Ward, an elementary school adjustment counselor for the Fall River school district, said they are working on obtaining a permit to hold a march in support of her daughter.
“Please follow our story as we continue to release more information regarding systemic failures, deep legal and political connections, and troubling indications of conflict of interest and potential legal shielding,” said Ward in a statement.
Ward said in addition to the Facebook page, they have also set up an email account at justiceforaleciana@gmail.com.
A probable cause hearing for Aneudy Neo Gonzalez last month was postponed in Fall River District Court at the request of the DA’s office to further review for a possible indictment. He is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 9.
