Fall River educator who gave decades as teacher, vice principal, passes away

A Fall River educator for decades has died.

83-year-old Henry J. Hodgson of Fall River, passed away at Clifton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Somerset with his wife of 56 years by his side.

According to an obituary, Hodgson was born in Fall River and was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1960. He spent his entire career at Henry Lord Middle School starting as a teacher and retiring as vice principal in 2003.

“Henry was a lifetime member of the Elk’s Lodge #118 in Fall River. An avid New England sports fan, he enjoyed jogging and ran every day for as long as he was able to. His biggest running accomplishment was completing the New Bedford ½ marathon.”

His funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 10:00AM in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Spring St., Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited. The family will greet guests on the way into mass from 9:30 to 9:55AM. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River.
