Fall River eatery launches initiative to help kids put down the junk food with free fruit

A Fall River eatery known for its unique style, tasty treats, and giving back, is once again launching an initiative to help the community.

Christopher’s at 1816 South Main Street is aiming to help Fall River children put down the junk food and instead eat healthier options.

Ownership took to social media to announce their plans.

“Every day I see kids outside here eating these fifty cent bags of chips and McDonald’s wrappers (they are across the street) floating around. I realize children and everyone really likes this kind of food but with the price of fruit I can only imagine it’s also more budget friendly. So, in hopes that fruit becomes the new snack for this neighborhood we are going to have a community fruit stand out front on Tuesdays and Fridays. It’s free to the neighborhood and parents if you’re having a tough time accessing fresh fruit for whatever reasons feel free to grab enough for the family. Fresh fruit should not be available to only those who can afford it these days so we’re taking action. No need to come in, no need to ask, just take what you need. If anything, I’ve learned from putting thousands of dollars worth of landscaping around this building that no one ever touched, is that my immediate neighborhood can be trusted to do the right thing. Tell the kids to ditch the chips and vibe with a free piece of fruit on us.”

This isn’t the first time that Christopher’s has given back. Last summer, they posted on social media that due to the heat and receiving free product, they would be giving out free water with no questions asked.

Christopher’s is known for a rotating menu of breakfast items, fresh baked goods, breads, croissants, bagels, pretzels, salads, to go meals, gourmet sandwiches, iced/hot coffee, house made soups, charcuterie boards, cakes, pies, pastries, and a variety of cookies and desserts from around the world.

In addition to the 1816 South Main Street location, Christopher’s opened a cafe inside the New Boston Medical Center on New Boston Road in March.
