An ongoing investigation being led by the Massachusetts State Police Narcotics Unit assigned to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III’s office resulted in the arrest Monday of two Fall River men and the seizure of more than five-and-a-half kilos of cocaine, two illegal guns and more than $28,000 in cash.

Troopers with the Bristol Narcotics Unit, along with members of Dartmouth Police, the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office, Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit, Fall River Police, Newport, RI Police and the DEA executed three search warrants on Monday at 31 Oxford Street, and 130 High Street in Fall River.

During the execution of the search warrants, police arrested 60-year-old Daniel Ferrer and 73-year-old Santos Amezquita. Investigators also seized approximately 5,635 grams of suspected cocaine, a .380 Walter PPK pistol, a 9mm Luger Pistol, multiple boxes of ammunition and more than $28,090 in cash.

Ferrer and Amezquita are charged with Trafficking in Cocaine, Possession of an Illegal Firearm in Commission of a Felony, Improper Storage of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Conspiracy. Both defendants were arraigned Tuesday in Fall River District Court, at which time the Bristol County DA’s Office requested they be held for a dangerousness hearing, which the court scheduled for February 6th. The defendants are both being held without bail pending the outcome of that hearing.

“I’m very pleased at the joint effort of our state police narcotics unit and other law enforcement agencies who worked together during the investigation, which resulted in a significant seizure of cocaine, illegal guns and a large amount of cash,” District Attorney Quinn said.
