Fall River Chief Gauvin: We need to move forward and continue the all-important work of regaining the trust and confidence
Chief Paul Gauvin issued a statement today concerning today’s conviction of former Fall River Police Officer Michael Pessoa:
“It’s certainly a sad day in the department’s history. But I think it’s important to note that the Fall River Police Department investigated this matter internally, leading to his termination. We investigated this matter criminally and assisted through all phases of the prosecution. Despite the fact that the prosecution has ended, we need to move forward and continue the all-important work of regaining the trust and confidence of this community and restoring the pride, dignity, and honor of the Fall River Police Department. I have no doubt, with the help of all our officers who come to work every day and make a difference in our city, that we will meet this challenge.”

I have faith. some bad apples make it in the bushel but eventually the bushel will smell and that apple will expose itself.

The FRPD has a lot of work to do. Hoar, Pessoa, Custodio, etc.. We now know that the FRPD have no problem beating people up or shooting them dead and that other officers will lie to protect them.
We know drugs can be “lost,” and there are no repercussions unless the situation is blatant or caught on camera. We know that the leadership has failed, and the organization’s culture is rotten to the core.
Unless there is a total house cleaning from top to bottom and a shift in the organizational culture and true community outreach, the public would be out of its collective mind to trust, help, or utilize the services of the FRPD.
While I’m against defunding police nonsense, “backing the blue” is just as absurd, at least in Fall River.

The ‘Back the Blue’ mindset has always been problem and it came to light during Covid Shutdowns.
Prior to Covid BLM and Antifa were on the rampage throughout America and were treated with Kid Gloves by police forces. In Massachusetts highways were Blocked and riots in Boston took place. State and Local Police laid down. BUT, when it came time to do Mask enforcement and harass small businesses during Covid lockdown it was full law enforcement time. Cops that allowed major highway to be blocked by BLM scum came full force to Granny’s Coffee shop to shut it down or to enforce Masking. There is video of a horrible instance of Police bullying of pizza shop patrons in Boston trying to eat without wearing a MASK !!!
Police are AGENTS of the State and are not there to protect your personal safety or constitutional rights. The function of police is LAW ENFORCEMENT, not your personal SECURITY … big difference. The reality is that most medium to small police forces are more trouble than they are worth
