Fall River area police are receiving increase in calls for stolen yard signs and political confrontations and it shouldn’t surprise you
If you have followed the political chatter on social media, this should come as no surprise, the political climate has turned criminal in the Fall River area.
The Dartmouth Police Department stated that over the past few weeks they have noticed a rising trend in calls related to politics. From stolen property to heated threats, it seems the “election season” has everyone feeling a little too passionate.
Police have received calls of stolen signs from someone’s yard and confrontations with neighbors who have different views.
On Sunday, a Westport resident expressed her frustration on social media.
“So, my husband hung an American flag and a Harris Walz 2024 flag on the end of Fisherville Lane and Horseneck Road, with permission of landowners. The American flag is still there, but the Harris Walz sign was stolen. I know there are many Trump voters in my area. I would never take their signs or their flags. I respect their opinion and their freedom to speak up. I wish they would pay the same respect to Harris voters. It would be wonderful if you can return our flag. Thank you very much.”
If you have read political posts and comments on social media (how can you miss them), there appears to be a growing number of people who don’t tolerate a different point of view and aggressively so. Don’t even try to correct them either or you will feel their wrath. I have experienced it myself.
Members on both sides of the political fence need to have more tolerance and understanding and try to look at things through another person’s point of view and not wear blinders as politicians on both sides have their share of faults.
Theft and assault over political differences isn’t what our forefathers had in mind and as a society we should be better.
Whether you belong to a political party or not, we all want what we feel is best for our community, state, and country. Stealing political signs and yelling at strangers or our neighbors won’t help accomplish that.
