The Fall River Police Department has issued an update on an incident over the weekend.

According to police, on Sunday, during an extremely busy night in which public safety resources were being stretched thin, police responded at 9:00 p.m. to a homeless encampment at the bottom of Middle Street for a report of a woman in crisis.

A witness at the camp reported that a 43-year-old female had been acting erratically and threatening others with scissors before fleeing into the camp just prior to the police arrival.

Officers searched the dark area and quickly located the female. She was unconscious, was transported to Saint Anne’s Hospital by paramedics, where she was pronounced deceased shortly after.

FRPD Major Case Detectives and Mass State Police Detectives responded and assumed the investigation.

This investigation remains open.
