A Fall River boy is facing something someone so young should never face, yet he is doing so with joy and laughter.

Soon to be 7-year-old Lucas Pacheco was recently diagnosed with CNL3 Batten’s disease.

The disease is a rare, inherited, neurodegenerative disorder that leads to vision loss, and the ability to walk and talk. It causes seizures, with its victims eventually becoming wheelchair-bound and needing assistance with daily tasks. There is currently no cure, and it is fatal.

Before his world goes completely dark, Lucas has one wish, to see the fireworks in London on New Years Eve.

The display is one of, if not the best, in the world. Lucas loves it so much that he watches the playback every night.

Andrea Sousa, his aunt, along with other family members, want to make his wish a reality, that is why she created a GoFundMe fundraiser.

“We want to make sure the last big vision Lucas remembers is a sky lit up with color, magic, and light – something he can hold onto forever. “We are raising funds to cover travel, accommodation, and expenses so Lucas and his family can create this unforgettable memory together. Any extra funds will go towards his medical care and making his remaining time as joyful as possible. This GoFundMe will not only help create lasting memories, but will also ease the burden of medical expenses, including the future need for a medically accessible van and home.”

Lucas currently lives in Fall River with his father Ed and stepmother Jordan.

Happy early birthday Lucas. We hope you get your wish.
