A local man killed in a crash late Thursday night is being remembered.
According to Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Troopers assigned to the Dartmouth Barracks responded to a crash on Route 6 on the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge.
Preliminary information indicates that a vehicle traveling on Route 6 west in New Bedford crossed over the solid double yellow line and crashed into a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. The driver of the vehicle that crossed the yellow lines sustained non-life-threatening injuries while the driver of the other vehicle sustained fatal injuries.
First responders transported the surviving driver via ambulance to a local hospital.
The decedent was identified as Mason Evich, 28, of Fairhaven.
According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, “Mason was a light in everyone’s life. To know him was to love him. He was the kind of person who always had something positive to say and was friendly to anyone he met. He loved spending Sundays with his family having dinner and he had the best contagious laugh that you could hear from rooms away. Mason loved spending time with his girlfriend Lexy, was always there for his friends, whether it was to go run errands, book a spontaneous trip, or just hang out and watch movies. He will be truly missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know him.”
The matter remains under investigation by the State Police.
