Extended, outpatient mental health evaluation ordered for Westport man accused of strangling two-month-old
A 37-year-old Westport man who was arrested for allegedly strangling a two-month-old child, faced a judge on Monday.
Stephen Kegyes was arraigned in 2021 on multiple charges including three counts of permitting injury to a child, strangulation, reckless endangerment of a child, and assault and battery on a child with injury.
A not guilty plea was entered on all charges.
On January 12th, 2021, as the investigation proceeded, detectives obtained video from Kegyes’ husband which was taken from inside the residence and allegedly showed Kegyes abusing the infant on January 9th. In the video, Kegyes reportedly grabbed the baby by the neck and tossed him on the couch.

Kegyes posted $2,500 bail in January of 2021.
The defendant was arraigned in Fall River Superior Court after previously being arraigned in Fall River District Court.
According to court records, on Monday, Kegyes had a hearing to determine competency to stand trial and an extended, outpatient 15(a) mental health evaluation was ordered.
Another competency hearing is scheduled for December 8th.
