Employee at Cape Cod restaurant seriously injured after vehicle crashes through business
Two were injured, one seriously, after a crash into a Cape Cod business on Wednesday morning.
According to police, at just after 9:15 a.m., Chatham Police and Chatham Fire Rescue responded to Larry’s PX restaurant, 1591 Main Street, for a report that a vehicle had driven into the building.
Upon arrival, Chatham Public Safety located a 2017 Subaru Forester, operated by a female 71-year-old Chatham resident, that had breached the front entrance and penetrated several feet into the restaurant.
According to the Chatham Fire Department, Chatham Police were on scene working to free a victim trapped between the vehicle and the structure. Fire Department personnel utilized tools to free the victim to an awaiting ambulance where they were transported to South Shore Hospital with serious but non-life threating injuries. This victim was an employee of the restaurant. A second victim was removed from the building and transported to Cape Cod Hospital. This victim was a patron. The driver was uninjured.
Once the vehicle was removed, the Technical Rescue Team shored the building and all utilities were secured. There were no responder injuries, and the building was turned over to the owner. The other businesses in Shop Ahoy Plaza will remain open.
Assisting with this response were members of the Barnstable County Technical Rescue Team and Town of Chatham Building and Code Enforcement.
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
