EDITORIAL: Fall River youth baseball team headed to World Series, looking for community support
On Thursday night July 25 me and my teammates made some history of sorts. We won the New England 8U Babe Ruth / Cal Ripken Regional Championship in Milton, Connecticut. We made it through an incredible week of baseball, in heat that topped out close to 100 degrees, finishing victorious. With the guidance of our coaches and many bottles of water we were undefeated during the entire week of competitive baseball, which included the best 8U teams in all New England. On our road to New England Regional Championship we amassed a 12 and 1 record.
We are now faced with the opportunity to compete at the national level at the World Series in Cherry Hill, New Jersey representing our park Maplewood and our city Fall River, Massachusetts. We love both with all of our hearts. In fact, we play and defeat our opponents with the hard work and heart that are said to be the cornerstone of our hometown. Like our city, our team is comprised of a diverse group of players who share a love of family, our hometown and most of all our love to play baseball together. We grind out every game to the bitter end and “never give up” has become our motto. We also try to live by the Babe Ruth Sportsmanship Code:
Develop a strong, clean, healthy body, mind and soul.
Develop a strong urge for sportsman-like conduct.
Develop understanding of and respect for the RULES.
Develop courage in defeat, tolerance and modesty in victory.
Develop control over emotions and speech.
Develop spirit of cooperation and team play.
Develop into real, true CITIZENS…
We would like nothing more than to end our summer of baseball competing for and earning the World Series Championship. We’d like to show the nation the results of our countless nights of practice in the cages and on the field. From Abbott Park to Maplewood Park, we spend hours in practice and in play culminating in this shot at the national title.
We cannot do this alone and kindly ask for your support. By making a generous donation to our team you are helping us attain our dreams and continue our baseball journey. Our team is extremely grateful that you even took the time to read about us. Your donation will help us with our travel, lodging and dinning expenses as we compete at the Cal Ripken Invitational in Cherry Hill, NJ. On August 7th through August 15, 2019. http://crworldseries.com/. Thank you for your generous support Maplewood Nation!
Thank you!
