Editorial: An easy way to brighten the day of a 95-year-old Fall River veteran who’s hit tough times

Sayers Mathews is a 95-year-old World War II Veteran.

Sayers has been quarantined since March. One thing he really enjoys is receiving mail so I am starting #OperationMrMatt and asking everyone to please send him mail for the holidays (cards, letters, etc.) to show him we care and that he is not forgotten, but is still very much appreciated.

Mr. Mathews lost his home of 70 years in Tiverton, RI in late October of 2019 and has since moved to his own apartment in Fall River with his son Russell Mathews. Just before they had to move, we learned that our dear & loving friend Russell, who has always cared for his dad & others more than himself, had bladder cancer and it had begun to spread. It also badly damaged his kidneys.

It being hard for him to receive any kind of cancer treatments here in the city, they sent him to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to be part of a special medical trial and hoping that it would stop any further spread of the cancer after his bladder removal.

These two have been through so much in such a short time, as we all have. PLEASE HELP ME make this holiday season a special one for them both.

LET’S FILL THEIR HOME with cards of love & hope.

Please send to :

Please share our message to help us reach as many as possible.

Thank you all.
