East Taunton man killed in Route 44 crash
On Friday, January 12, 2018 at about 12:35 a.m., State Police responded to a two-car crash which ultimately resulted in the death of an East Taunton man.
On Friday, January 12 at about 12:35 a.m., State Police responded to a two-car crash which ultimately resulted in the death of an East Taunton man.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Justin Greene indicates that a 23-year-old Monponsett man was traveling on Route 44 westbound in Carver in a 2001 Mitsubishi Gallant when he struck a 1998 Saturn SL2, which was stationary in the breakdown lane, and the operator, who was believed to be outside his vehicle at the time of the crash.
The operator of the Saturn, a 31-year-old East Taunton man, was transported to South Shore Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead. The operator of the Mitsubishi was uninjured in the crash.
This crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office. No charges have been filed at this time.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
State Police were assisted on scene by Carver Fire and EMS and MassDOT.
