An early Sunday morning crash in Massachusetts has resulted in life-threatening injuries and residents of a home displaced.

According to Chief John Glynn, at just after 3:00 a.m., Abington Fire crews were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at 633 Washington Street. Initial reports described an overturned vehicle that struck a house with multiple people trapped within the vehicle.

“First arriving crews discovered a vehicle on its side with significant damage and two patients trapped inside. The vehicle was tightly positioned between a stockade fence and the residence at 633 Washington Street. Structural damage as well as electrical meter damage was found on the left front of the 2.5 story home. All residents were evacuated prior to our arrival.

“Abington’s Ambulance 1 and Engine 4 arrived on scene and quickly evaluated the scene, calling for an additional ambulance, Tower 1 and off duty members to the scene. A Whitman Ambulance as well as a Holbrook Engine Company responded to assist. Crews used hydraulic cutters, motorized saws, and hydraulic spreaders referred to as “The Jaws of Life” to extricate the two patients by removing the roof of the vehicle.

“An approximate 20-year-old male was transported to South Shore Hospital by Whitman Ambulance with life threatening injuries. A second patient from the vehicle, an approximate 20-year-old male was transported to Boston Medical Center by Ambulance 1 with life threatening injuries.

“The Abington Police, Building Inspector, Wiring Inspector, National Grid and BCI responded to the scene to assist. The building was deemed unsafe by the Building Inspector until additional structural reinforcing could be provided by a contractor. Electricity was ordered to be shut down by the Wiring Inspector due to damage caused to the meter and surrounding service to the home. Five residents were displaced to alternative housing with no injuries.

“I want to commend the skill, professionalism, and teamwork that our crew members displayed under incredibly difficult conditions. I also would like to commend our partners at the Abington Police Department for their invaluable assistance at the scene.”
