Durfee senior looks to hit it big on American Idol
Colton McGrath, a senior at Durfee High School, has been a fixture on stage since his debut at just four years old. He has become a popular local act performing hit cover songs and also releasing his own material and videos. Although nothing totally prepares you to be judged under the bright lights by Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan, this made him a prime candidate to head to New York to try out for American Idol.
Colton lives and breathes music. He is heavily involved in the music & performing arts programs at Durfee and uses the art of singing and writing as a full form of expression.
He gave us some insight into his American Idol experience:
“My audition experience from American Idol was truly one that I will hold close to my heart for the rest of my life. It was one of the most challenging ordeals I have had as a vocalist and as a person but in the end has made me stronger in both areas. I have discovered what I can accomplish even in high stress situations and I have a pretty good idea of what I want the rest of my life to look like, and I can thank American Idol for that. I made some amazing memories and met some even more amazing people. This show gave me a chance to really get my message across in that no matter what struggles you are facing, whether it be mental health related, LGBT, or anything else, it can be overcome. There is always light and anyone struggling should dare to begin living life to its fullest. I’m glad that I am able to share my music nationally and share my story. Maybe I’ll inspire some people along the way. I will continue to work hard to become a household name, and I can thank Idol for opening my eyes to motivation and inspiration.”
Colton can’t release the audition results until airing, but with his talent and experience, the odds that he has made it to Hollywood are as good as anyone else, if not better. Fall River should be proud either way.
Help support Colton and catch him during the new season of American Idol starting on March 11th on ABC.
