Driver seriously injured after collision with semi-trailer truck on Route 44
A driver has been seriously injured after a Tuesday evening crash.
Lakeville Fire responded just after 6:30 p.m. this evening to the scene of the accident.
While responding, firefighters were provided an update that there were serious injuries in the crash.
Car 1 requested a second ambulance from Middleborough’s close-by north fire station prior to its arrival. Ambulance 1, Engine 2, Car 2, and Car 1 completed the response.
Crews arrived to find a car that had collided with a semi-trailer truck at Route 44 and Millennium Circle.
The car’s driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford by Lakeville Fire Department’s Ambulance 1.
LFD pointed out that St. Luke’s Hospital was designated as a trauma center just last week. The injured driver was the first priority patient to be transported to the new trauma center from Lakeville.
According to LFD, transport time was reduced by more than 15 minutes, as the hospital is more than 10 miles closer to the scene than the next closest trauma center.
