Driver involved in two-car crash seriously injured after high-speed police chase ends in second crash on Route 6, Massachusetts State Police say
A man accused of being involved in a crash was seriously injured after fleeing from police and crashing a second time.
According to Massachusetts State Police, this morning shortly before 11:25 a.m., Barnstable Police notified State Police about a pursuit of a Ford F150 that failed to stop after being involved in a two-car crash on Route 132 in Barnstable. The F150 continued to evade local police and traveled onto Route 6 west.
A Trooper traveling in an unmarked cruiser followed behind Barnstable Police engaged in the pursuit. The F150 reached speeds of approximately 90 miles per hour prompting Troopers further down Route 6 to position themselves to deploy stop sticks if needed.
At 11:31 a.m., the F150 drove erratically in and out of traffic, including in the breakdown lane, when it crashed again into another vehicle.
Immediately after the crash, Troopers successfully deployed stop sticks to end the pursuit. The operator of the F150, a man in his 20s, sustained serious injuries and was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford.
The crash remains under investigation by the State Police.
No further information was available regarding the identity of the driver.
