Doris Giunta, wife of slain Fall River police officer, passes away
Condolences have been pouring in today concerning a loss in the Fall River community.
70-year-old Doris Giunta, of Fall River, passed away today after a courageous battle with cancer.
Doris was the widow of slain Fall River police officer Thomas Giunta.
On August 24, 1994, Giunta was shot and killed distributing parking passes on Middle Street for the Holy Ghost Feast. He was a 21-year veteran of the Fall River Police Department and a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of the Vietnam War.
Upon his death, Doris was a fixture in the community, in particular being involved in organizing the Thomas Giunta 5K Road Race with Dave Pacheco. The race experienced its 25-year anniversary in 2019.
Doris’ stepson and Tommy’s son, Timothy Giunta, has served as a police officer in Fall River. Doris is also survived by a daughter Candice, a stepdaughter Tina and stepson Tommy Jr.
Representatives of the road race issued the following statement.
“All of you who have attended the race, if only once, knew and were touched by (Doris’) loving kindness. Her love for the runners, walkers, volunteers and the kids that participated kept a smile on her face. Most importantly was keeping Tom’s memory alive. Doris, thank you for your guidance, support and continued help through everything. You were absolutely LOVED by all and will sadly be missed. It truly will not be the same without You.”
“Our deepest condolences go out to Doris’s family and know that You are all in our thoughts and prayers, and know You have our continued support.”

Such a wonderful woman! She will be missed. I remember meeting Doris when she helped establish and organize the 5K race with FRPD Officers William Nasser and Bruce Tavares. Such a delightful, positive woman whose strength was an inspiration to many in Fall River and beyond.
