The Fall River Fire Department battled a two-alarm fire today in blazing heat.
According to Fire Chief Roger St. Martin, a fire was reported at 11:00 a.m. at 19 Norfolk Street. 3 engines, 2 ladders, 1 command vehicle, and 1 heavy rescue responded to the scene. The first fire apparatus, Platform 1, arrived on scene just 5 minutes later reporting a working fire and took command. Acting District Chief Lewis arrived 2 minutes later and took command of the fire scene. A second alarm was called which led to more units responding including District Chief Bacon.
Special services responded for rehab and personnel was on scene to keep the crews hydrated.
Due to the high heat, all units rotated to the scene for crew relief and rotation. Crews are still at the scene.
St. Martin stated that one firefighter was transported to the hospital. One dog died from the fire and two cats are missing.
Approximately $250,000 in damage occurred to the property that houses Acores Bakery, however, none of the buildings that were extremely close to the structure suffered damage.
