Dighton, Taunton, Berkley, Rehoboth firefighters battle flames, icy and slippery conditions
DIGHTON — Fire Chief Christopher J. Maguy reports that the Dighton Fire Department extinguished a house fire on Monday night.
At just before 10:00 p.m., Dighton Fire responded to a reported house fire at 229 Rose Terrace, a single-family home.
On arrival, crews observed fire at the back of the house. All occupants had evacuated from the home by the time crews arrived.
Firefighters aggressively attacked the flames and knocked the fire down by 10:26 p.m.
There were no injuries to firefighters or residents.
“At this time, we believe the fire was started by a bathroom exhaust fan,” Chief Maguy said. “The whole back half of the roof burnt through, but the fire was mostly contained to attic spaces.”
The Dighton Fire Department received mutual aid at the scene from the Taunton, Berkley, and Rehoboth fire departments. Somerset and Swansea fire departments covered the town’s two stations while Dighton firefighters were at the fire scene.
“Our crews made a quick entry and knocked down the bulk of the fire in a relatively quick time,” Chief Maguy said.
Firefighters at the scene coped with extremely low temperatures, which led to ice and slippery conditions on the dead-end street.
“Thank you to our mutual aid companies — they helped us contain this fire quickly,” Chief Maguy said. “And thank you to the Dighton Police Department, who helped us ensure everyone was out of the house.”
The fire remains under investigation by the Dighton Fire Department, Dighton Police Department, and the Massachusetts State Fire Marshal’s Office.
