UPDATE: Fall River Police have confirmed that yesterday’s chase involved a vehicle of interest regarding the shooting which occurred on Monday October 29, 2018. This vehicle was originally captured on a nearby video surveillance camera moments after the shooting occurred.

Wednesday afternoon four Freetown Officers, Fall River Police and the Massachusetts State Police engaged in a pursuit.

According to scanner transmissions, at approximately 4:30 p.m. a BOLO was issued by Fall River Police for a beige Subaru Legacy after it fled the area of Bay and Middle Streets at a high rate of speed. The vehicle proceeded onto Route 79 North where the pursuit was  terminated by FRPD.

According to Freetown Police, the vehicle then entered Freetown via Exit 9 on Rte. 24 North. It proceeded North on South Main St. A Freetown Officer observed the vehicle on South Main Street and engaged in a pursuit with the vehicle. The Subaru was traveling at a high rate of speed and was weaving in between traffic, posing an imminent danger to the motoring public. The vehicle proceeded to the area of the Assonet Four Corners where it encountered three other Freetown Police cruisers. The Subaru then struck a Freetown cruiser, reversed direction, then continued south on South Main Street. The Subaru then proceeded onto Rte. 24 South and got off at Exit 8B (Innovation Way). It then traveled on South Main Street into Fall River.

Multiple vehicles were struck in the chase according to scanner reports.

Two people were reportedly inside the vehicle which was found unoccupied in the area of Slade and Foote Street.

A Massachusetts State Police helicopter was dispatched to search for the suspects.

The suspects are described as “two light skinned black men, probably in their early to mid-20s.”

It is believed that the chase was concerning a suspect involved in the shooting from earlier in the week on Pleasant and Thomas Streets where a man was shot in the leg. As stated previously, the victim is in stable condition. His name has not yet been released.

The Officer driving the Freetown cruiser that was struck suffered no injuries and resumed normal patrol afterwards according to Police.
