Details emerge concerning allegations against former Fall River teacher

More details have come to the surface concerning allegations against a former Fall River teacher.

According to WJAR 10 and court documents, a Culinary Arts student working the cash register at Durfee High School’s Granite Grille accused culinary faculty member Paul Coury of touching her backside on multiple occasions.

Once students began texting back and forth concerning the incidents and teachers got word of it, an investigation began.

The father of the student reporting the incidents wasn’t notified of the investigation until it was over, according to WJAR.

“The school had investigated and done some things, but they didn’t tell us. They just decided that they were going to interview a 15-year-old little girl and no lawyer, no parents, no police officers, no nothing, nobody knew anything.”

The father is hoping that Coury’s court appearance on Wednesday will bring the truth to light. He also believes that officials could have done more to let him, and his wife, know what was taking place.

Coury was arraigned Wednesday on a single charge of indecent assault and battery on a person over the age of 14 and pled not guilty. He faces a pretrial hearing in August.

Coury is no longer employed at the school.

Fall River Superintendent of Schools Maria Pontes did not answer a request for comment.
