Despite help from bystanders, 19-year-old motorcycle rider killed in crash with car
The name of a 19-year-old motorcycle rider killed in a fatal collision Monday has been identified.
Just after 6:00 p.m., police responded to Route 102 in Burrillville concerning a head-on crash between a motorcycle and car.
Brenden Mendes of Cumberland reportedly hit the vehicle that had just turned onto Route 102 from Lapham Farm Road.
Mendes was thrown from the motorcycle, landing approximately 300 feet from the crash scene.
Both the driver and passenger in the vehicle were transported to a hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.
Bystanders stopped to help Mendes, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mendes was a graduate of Cumberland High School in 2021.
Police believe that speed was a factor but continue to investigate the crash.
