Department of Homeland Security arrests man in Massachusetts wanted for murder after crash, foot pursuit

Federal authorities have captured a man in Massachusetts who is wanted for murder.

According to police, shortly before 7:00 a.m., the Norwood Police Department was notified of a motor vehicle crash on Tremont Street.

Upon arrival, Norwood officers spoke with federal law enforcement officers from the Department of Homeland Security, who had been in the area attempting to locate and arrest a wanted individual.

According to the DHS officers, they observed their target, identified as Cleiton Toledo de Souza, getting into a vehicle in front of 6 Tremont Street. When DHS officers attempted to take him into custody, de Souza allegedly fled in the vehicle and struck two parked vehicles.

De Souza then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Following a brief foot pursuit, DHS officers took him into custody.

DHS advised Norwood officers that de Souza was wanted in Brazil in connection with a murder.

Norwood Police officers remained at the scene and handled the investigation and documentation of the motor vehicle crash. DHS officers subsequently left the scene with de Souza in federal custody.
