Department of Children, Youth & Families announces fatality of 2-month-old child

PROVIDENCE, R.I. The Department of Children, Youth & Families has disclosed the fatality of a 2-month-old child.

A DCYF investigation has determined this fatality resulted from maltreatment.

The child and the family were not open to the Department at the time of this incident.

The incident occurred on July 19, 2025, and DCYF has notified the Office of Child Advocate.

DCYF stated that while confidentiality laws prohibit them from disclosing additional details, they are always disheartened to learn of these incidents.

Rhode Islanders are required by law to report known or suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to DCYF within 24 hours of becoming aware of such abuse/neglect. Please call 1-800-RI-CHILD to report known or suspected cases of child abuse.
