Department of Children, Youth & Families announces deaths of two 3-month-old infants in three weeks

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Pursuant to CAPTA amendment 42 U.S.C. § 106 (b)(2)(B)(x), the Department of Children, Youth & Families has disclosed the fatality of a 3-month-old child.

A DCYF investigation has determined this fatality resulted from maltreatment.

The child and the family were not open to the Department at the time of this incident.

The incident occurred on April 5, 2025, and DCYF has notified the Office of Child Advocate.

This is the second announcement concerning the death of a 3-month-old in three weeks.

Confidentiality laws prohibit DCYF from disclosing additional details, but they encourage any families needing support to reach out to the warm line for information on resources and support at 1-888-RI-FAMLY (1-888-743-2659).

Rhode Islanders are required by law to report known or suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to DCYF within 24 hours of becoming aware of such abuse/neglect. Please call 1-800-RI-CHILD to report known or suspected cases of child abuse.
