Department of Children, Youth & Families announces death of 3-month-old infant, near death of 10-year-old

PROVIDENCE, R.I. The Department of Children, Youth & Families is disclosing the fatality of a 3-month-old infant.

The child and family were open to the Department at the time of the incident.

The incident occurred on Friday, and DCYF has notified the Office of Child Advocate.

Additionally, DCYF is disclosing the near fatality of a 10-year-old child. The Department confirmed at a later date that the case was the subject of maltreatment findings and met the criteria of a near fatality. DCYF notified the Office of Child Advocate. The child and family were not open to the Department at the time of this incident.

Confidentiality laws prohibit DCYF from disclosing additional details.
