Department of Children, Youth & Families announces death of 18-year-old involved with the department

PROVIDENCE, R.I. On Tuesday, pursuant to Rhode Island General Law § 42-72-8(c), the Department of Children, Youth & Families disclosed the near fatality of an 18-year-old youth. The Department has been notified that the youth passed away on Thursday. The Department is now making this disclosure of the youth’s fatality.

DCYF has notified the Office of the Child Advocate of this fatality.

The previously disclosed near-fatality incident occurred a week ago. The youth was involved with DCYF at the time of the incident.

Confidentiality laws prohibit DCYF from disclosing additional details.

Rhode Islanders are required by law to report known or suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to DCYF within 24 hours of becoming aware of such abuse or neglect. Please call 1-800-RI-CHILD (1-800-742-4453) to report known or suspected cases of child abuse.
