Decorated fixture in Somerset and Fall River community passes away at 74
A woman who was known for her dedicated service and volunteering throughout the Fall River and Somerset area has died.
According to an obituary, 74-year-old Arlene M. Silvia of Somerset, MA, passed away on Monday.
Arlene graduated from Somerset High School and “served patients first at Union Hospital and later at Charlton Memorial Hospital, before becoming the school nurse at South School in Somerset, where generations of children remember her gentle reassurance and ready smile.”
The obituary stated that Arlene, a woman of deep faith, “was a lifelong parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church. She served as past President of the Women’s Guild, co-chaired the parish’s beloved annual bazaar, and was honored with the Marion Medal for her devoted service. Her community contributions were further recognized with a service award for the Somerset High School Athletic Hall of Fame, Unsung Heroine Award of 2008 from MA Commission on the Status of Women, and the Fall River Chamber of Commerce Recognition Award for Outstanding Service, a testament to the countless hours she poured into church and town life.
“Around Somerset, Arlene was easy to spot—cruising in her bright red convertible, often leading local parades and always waving to friends along the route. Her zest for life shone through in every smile and cheerful honk.
“Arlene’s life of compassion, faith, and boundless energy touched everyone she met. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored, the patients she comforted, and the community she served with joy.”
Arlene’s funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River, MA on Friday, Nov. 14th here at 8:45 AM, with a Funeral Mass to be held at Our Lady of Peace Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, Somerset at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset. Calling hours on Thursday, Nov. 13th from 4-7 PM.
