DCYF determines maltreatment contributed to death of 5-year-old boy
The Department of Children, Youth & Families has disclosed more information concerning the fatality of a 5-year-old boy.
The incident occurred on September 18th, 2021 in West Warwick. The Department initiated an investigation and, through this investigation, determined maltreatment contributed to the fatality of the boy. Pursuant to state law, DCYF has notified the Office of the Child Advocate of the report.
The West Warwick Police Department stated that they were called around 9 a.m. to a home on Petti Drive after the boy was pulled- unresponsive- from a swimming pool. On the scene, officials began CPR to the boy, before he was transported to Kent County Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
DCYF stated that the department had no previous involvement with the family.
Due to confidentiality laws, DCYF is prohibited from sharing additional information.
